Choo Choo Brennan's TWO!

We celebrated Brennan's birthday March 10 and March 12. All the Grandparents made it for the BIG #2! On his ACTUAL birthday we thought we would give him the Red Robin experience, waiters singing, shake and a balloon. He loved it! Saturday, we has a Choo Choo party with a few friends.

Preparing for Brady

If you have not got the word, our new baby boy will be Brady Kristopher Colt. He is actually due TODAY! But, has yet to grace us with his presence. Grandma Martin is on a cruise, so she hopes he keeps on cooking until she returns and is more in touch. We don't feel too bad for her soaking up the sun in the Bahamas!

Brennan has been an amazing big brother already. He loves to talk about Brady! He easily gave up his 'baby' room and loves the idea that it is now Brady's. He even talks to him: "come out Brady, play baseball Brennan!". He has also been helping in the preparations.

Brennan will be gaining an Uncle in the near future, Krista and Ryan are engaged!! The Colts are sooo excited for them. They make an amazing couple. And, Brennan LOVES RyRy, super PLUS. Let the planning begin. It looks like it will be a summer wedding, and yes, we are talking 2011!!!!

Baby Brother

Ok, Ok, it has been a while! And, almost everyone knows by now, that Brennan will be gaining a brother this Spring (April 7...maybe). It has been hard to remember how soon that will be, and, if you noticed how long it has been since I last blogged...I have been a little busy.

The pregnancy has been great, almost as easy as the last one...except for the part where I have to take care of a toddler! But, really, I forget sometimes. Although, now, it is more glaringly obvious (note my belly pic from weeks ago).

Toddler Days....

Brennan is truly the little toddler, now! Active as ever, full of personality, and knows just what he wants. As these recent days are marked by some of the cutest memories: singing ABC's, getting in hitting stance with the baseball bat, saying all kinds of words (bubbles, whats that, bowl, please, and many more), cheers-ing, dancing to the beat, playing hide'n'go seek, going down the big slide all by himself, to name a few....Brennan also has his moments of 'expressing' himself ;). Brennan has gotten himself into a few 'time-outs' for aggressive behavior and has experienced natural consequences for being the dare-devil that he is (as if that stopped him, anyways!). What a BOY!! He is pretty good about telling us what he wants, whether it is sign language (he knows a few, mostly 'more'), words, sounds or pointing...but patience hopefully is around the corner (ya, right!).

Yes, I know it has been a while. I am down to the 'every-other-month' blog, no more monthlies. And, lucky for you, I am maxed out at work and can't do one other thing besides blog about my son!! He is so funny now. He is talking it up and starting some obsessions, bananas and toothbrushes are his latest! He says, nana, gentle, bye-bye, gigi, medicine, moon, all done, and probably others I have not understood. And for those multi-syllabic words like 'medicine' and 'gentle' they are only clear enough to the care-givers ear :) Brennan is starting to interact with the kids at daycare more, hugging them and even plopping himself on the 3 year old's laps! He climbs (time to take him out of the crib), runs and re-arranges furniture just how he likes it. He is also an eater. 1/2 banana is NOT enough, must be a whole. He wants to try all of our food and is working on using a spoon...it is like a battle zone when he gets finished serving himself. Thanks to all the eating he has put on quite the belly, and is growing out of the 12 month clothes.

These last months, Brennan went to Arizona for Spring Training. He was a great little traveler, even when he got really sick with a fever. We had a layover both ways and that always made it a long day! Easter was a lot of fun, we went to family friends and had a hunt for the two 1-year old babies. Baby Charlie got the Golden Egg ;(. We have had many trips with the bike trailer to the park for some fun on warm days. Can't wait for summer!!!

First Birthday Party!

After a bit of preparation, family arriving into town, and a pre-party nap, the moment arrived for celebrating Brennan's big birthday! March 6 (a few days early) we celebrated Brennan's 1st birthday. Both sets of Grandparents, Auntie KK, and 30 guests joined us for the mid-day celebration. Good food, a bounce house, cupcakes, TONS of presents, lots of smiles AND 60 degree weather in early March made for a fun-packed day. When it came to the cake-eating moment Brennan was VERY apprehensive, but after one taste of that sugary frosting, he was ALL in!! When it came to present opening, Brennan had a lot of little helpers. Thanks to them we did not have to sit there for 3 hours opening gifts, they reduced it to about an hour...thank goodness ;). To say Brennan is now spoiled is an understatement. And, although it was a perfect day, there were of course those things that made it even more memorable, like: Brennan falling out the back door at the beginning of the party, and 1/2 of our family getting the violent stomach flu we had earlier in the week!

The Coast

We had a great weekend, spending time near Depot Bay with a group of 5 couples. Three of the couples have babies under 1, so it made for an exciting weekend! We rented a house that was perfect for everyone and had access to the beach. Despite the tsunami warning and a flu bug that spread to almost everyone, we had a relaxing time with some great memories.

Brennan and the other babies sure loved the beach. Brennan really wanted to sample a taste of the sand, and so he did...multiple times. And, Cj wondered why he had sand in his diaper even though we had not been to the beach ;)

The Park

When Brennan was born last spring, I could hardly wait until he was old enough to take to a park and PLAY. Well, that time has come! And with the weather just warm enough and no snow on the ground we took Brennan down to the Farewell Bend Park for some playtime. He loved climbing the rocks and, particularly, picking up the bark chips and attempting to eat them!

Valentine's weekend we headed to Yreka for some Colt family time. Uncle Unc, Aunt Jody, and cousin Judah were visiting from Solvang. It was amazing to see how much Judah has grown and changed since we last saw him. Saturday Cj and I snuck off to Ashland for a night away at the Ashland Springs Hotel. Brennan had a great time hanging with Gigi, Popo and the fam. Sunday he even got to go to church, his favorite part was the singing. Then, he got a little restless and he and Popo went exploring!

CJ and two other husbands helped to put on a graduation celebration for the Lesley Masters Graduates (their wives). They did an amazing jobs. Most of us had our parents and families there and even a few friends. The boys did all the cooking, decorating and even gave a speech (with the help of my dad)!

Brennan is quite the little personality. We are starting to see how Brennan likes to laugh and make us laugh. He will often do something that he thinks is "funny" (like banging toys together), then wait for us to laugh and then follow our laugh with a big giggle. He is very social and is always drawn to other kids. He will go right up to them and interact. Daycare has been great for that. This month has been full of watching Brennan explore the world! Now that he is walking, everything has changed. He always manages to find the most unsafe thing to play with, like my curling irons and the toilet lid! Toys just aren't that interesting. Christina, his daycare "lady" has taught Brennan how to go up and down stairs safely (see the video). It is amazing to see him take such care in doing something cautiously. We almost don't need a baby gate. Swimming just wrapped up yesterday. he loved getting in the water and splashing around, he even got his first certificate. He got all "checks" in each area, except blowing bubbles. I of course demanded to see the rubric for the expectations on receiving a "check" ;) He still loves his little book corner. He will sit for 10 minutes "reading" (turning pages). Brennan continues to love eating. He gets very excited to sit in his high chair. He now eats all solid foods: frozen veggies, soft fruits, crackers, meats and cheeses. He really likes to "do it himself", so he much prefers self feeding to being spoon fed. But if we are spoon feeding him something, he likes to have his own spoon which he is allowed to occasionally attempt to serve himself. He laughs so hard when he actually gets some in his mouth!! Our favorite is hearing Brennan's big giggle. He IS ticklish, so we can always get a giggle with a little tickle. In one month Brennan will be 1 year! We are planning a little party for the big day.

10 months

Brennan has hit the double digits...at least in months! He has become the little charmer - giggling, mimicking, waving, clapping, talking, and screaming for joy! He loves to be engaged with people, but he also enjoys his 'alone' time playing with toys. The BIG news is Brennan is walking!! He has started taking steps, we have seen him take 6 steps before he falls. His first step was in Dos Palos at his Great Grandma and Grandpa's house. He keeps trying and trying. Today he started swim lessons and loved being in the water. Brennan is a full-time daycare kid now. He arrives at 7:30 and stays until 3:30. He screams and shakes out of excitement when we get to Christina's (the daycare provider) home. We are happy to see him so happy. He only naps one-time at daycare, because he get SOO excited. But, it was great because he fell back into his 2-nap routine this weekend...he was a tired boy! Brennan now has a total of 7 (maybe 8) teeth. He has started to feed himself, occasionally. He will eat crackers and chopped foods, along with purees and few bottles. He eats a ton, but still continues to maintain his svelte little body.

Introducing Cousin - Judah Jon Thomas Colt

Brennan's first cousin has arrived. Judah Colt was born December 4th. We were lucky enough to meet this special boy on our visit to Solvang to see this new family. Brennan is quite fond of his new cousin :) Also, Aunt Jody and Uncle Kris had fun playing 'Santa' to Brennan.

Wow!! What a special holiday. We crammed it all in, and every special moment was sooo worth it. We traveled from Bend to Sacramento, to Sacramento to Morrow Bay, Morro Bay to Solvang, Solvang to Dos Palos, Dos Palos back to Sacramento, Sacramento to Yreka and Yreka to Bend!!! Along the way Brennan saw most members of his family, learned new and old holiday traditions, all while being spoiled rotten!

Every Mom has her stash...the dreaded naked baby pictures! Oh and I got some. Poor Brennan is getting his posted on a blog! The joys of new technology ;)

Brennan may not have liked baths the first go around, but he LOVES them now. The minute I strip him down in the bedroom, he jets (crawling) down the hall and into the bathroom and starts pounding on the bathtub screaming for joy!! He WON'T hold still, and splashes all around. He loves water so much we signed him up for swim lessons at the indoor pool. He will be doing them with Daddy on Monday and Wednesdays! Also, his best 'lady friend' Charlie will be partaking as well.

Daycare Days

Brennan has started daycare along with some filled days with a professional babysitter. Our good friend's Mom, Cathi, is kind enough to help us during these three weeks Brennan has to wait for his daycare spot. Brennan loves Cathi, she is a retired teacher who is already grooming him to be a genius. Tuesdays Brennan has been to daycare. HE LOVES IT! He plays with all the kids, while they all protect him and bring him toys. All the other kids are at the mature age of 2-4, so they like to show Brennan the 'ropes'. He loves daycare so much that he can't fall asleep for his second nap. He just laughs and plays in the crib while the others sleep. But, somehow he comes home happy and ready for round 3 with Mom and Dad!

That's 9 months for you NON-mathematicians! Brennan is loving being mobile. He is so happy crawling everywhere. He has discovered his favorite drawer, the baking drawer, where he pulls out sprinkles, muffin trays and cookie cutters. He is working on standing on his own. He can stand on his own for about 30 seconds. Also, he is working on 'mama', he already can say 'dada'....but he really has no idea what those sounds mean! However, one night Daddy showed him the moon and ever since then he says 'oon...oon' every time we take him into the bathroom to see the moon in the skylight!

Thanksgiving Week

Brennan is sure getting used to these car trips! He does great and loves to stare out the window. The only time he gets fussy is on the last leg of the trip usually around Chemult, OR (45 min. outside of Bend). It is like he knows we are almost there, Mom even feels the same way when we are that close!

The week started out with a special trip to Lafayette to visit the Ledermans and the soon-to-be Zadans. This included Brennan's second meeting of his buddy Nate, Danielle and Mike's son. Brennan had a blast playing with Nate's toys before he ever will! On our way back from the Bay Area we grabbed Auntie KK who had the opportunity to spend the week in Sacramento with her FAVORITE nephew, and of course...the rest of the family! Brennan was a super trooper shopping and having a photo shoot (he was the star) at the local Picture People on Tuesday. He put on quite the show. We were thinking he might have a future as a male model, but were reminded that he may not make it over the 5'10" mark! So much for that idea ;)

The holiday was spend with the Martins and, and of course, a ton of food displayed perfectly! Oh yes, and the table setting was gorgeous too (shout out to Mom). On Friday we traveled up to Yreka where we enjoyed Christmas tree hunting (with everyone else) and a big family dinner where Brennan entertained the crowed.

I'm a BIG boy now - 8 months old!

Brennan turned 8 months old, November 10th. He has had quite the month developmentally. He is crawling, pulling up on things and getting into everything. He just discovered how to open doors. He is so mesmerized by the door opening and closing that he doesn't even care what is inside of it...YET! We have taken persuasions and baby-proofed EVERYTHING. Well, everything that WE can think of, Brennan will probably find other hazards we will have to deal with. Also, he got his two front bottom teeth and loves to show them off with his smiles. He just tried a few Cheerio type snacks and had a very curious face while tasting them. In the end, I think he liked them. He loves carrot, green bean, pea, sweet potato, butternut squash, applesauce, pear, and banana purees. He also babbles sounds like 'dadada', 'blahblahblah', and even likes to make 'motor boat' noises while spitting lots of slobber. He can clap, give semi-hifives and is working on waiving, right now it is kind of a random arm jerk. He loves BB and Shellby. Surprisingly, BB is more tolerant than Shellby, but Shellby is coming around. She has been a little confused by all of this change, AND a little desperate for our attention. We also discovered Brennan has a pretty good immune system, when he managed not to get the flu his Dad had or the cold Mom had. Daycare days are around the corner, the true test of immunity will come then!

The best of all is seeing Brennan's little personality come out. He is quite the charmer. If you say 'no' he looks at you and smiles with a very devious look, then giggles away. When I come home from work he starts bouncing like a little bean, while smiling and clapping. Brennan loves his Dad, just the sound of his voice makes him smile.

Brennan was one ferocious lion for Halloween. Friday night we had our annual Halloween Party. Brennan had a few friends in attendance. He partied until 9:00!!! Then was OUT for the rest of the night. Halloween day, Brennan went around town in his Halloween costume and waited, that night, for ONE Trick-or-Treater!

Monday, October 12 (7 months old), Brennan took his first crawling 'steps' to Mom in the bedroom. That night Brennan surprised us when his little face was poking over the railing of the crib, after pulling himself onto his knees! Needless to day, we lowered the crib. 7 Months Old

Brennan is 7 months old today! He has changed so much this month. First of all, Brennan has been 'rocking' on all fours for the last 2 1/2 weeks, and is really getting close to crawling. Also, he finally starting, liking, and eating baby foods! Babbling and growling are some of Brennan's favorite noises. he like to 'talk' during our conversations, he hasn't quite learned how rude it is to interrupt. This week he got his first tooth on the bottom. Luckily, we have gotten away with him waking once at night in pain, and besides that he has not been fussy...whew. We'll be anticipating the next 19! Today, on his birthday he began mimicking Gigi (Grandma Gail) and I clapping. He puts his hands together, smiles, and tries (sometimes missing) slapping them together. We'll see what the next month holds for Brennan William...

Brennan has met so many of his friends. He has so much fun with them all! He loved hanging out with his Cool Cousin Cade a couple weeks ago. Then, he hung out with his buddy Cameron, son of Jen and Brendon Becker in Novato. Most recently, he met his future ball playing buddy, Nate (Born October 2, 2009), son of Danielle and Mike Lederman (he is adorable!!).

*Brennan acted very displeased when he was put near his friend Nate, as you can tell in the picture, Brennan later explained to me that he was simply jealous of his friend's full head of hair!

Work started two weeks ago. CJ and I both went back to work for our District work week, while Gigi and Popo watched Brennan. Then the next week, first week with students, I went to work and CJ started his Paternity Leave. He is staying home with Brennan all the way through Thanksgiving Break! It has been hard to leaving Brennan ALL day, especially when I have to be in class ALL weekend for my Masters. I hope I get used to this....

Rockin' Out

Brennan has been to two concerts in the last week! Brett Dennen on Monday and Jason Aldean on Thursday night (the cheap seats that night). He loves rockin' out to the music. He even likes staying out late!

Brennan had his first experience with real food! I made homemade butternut squash...reviews were not good. We tried giving it for a few days, and then switched to Sweet Potatoes...still no good. We will keep trying until he likes it.

Brennan turned 6 months on September 10! He is soo much fun, smiling, giggling, and playing with us. He JUST learned how to sit up, he ate his first puree and is very engaging.

We celebrated by having a dinner of Filet Mignon, Brennan watched us eat it, then we went and watched a country concert from the cheap seats!

Sophie is Brennan's favorite toy, one of the first toys he 'played' with. She goes everywhere with us. Sophie even sit next to Brennan in his car-seat on travels. She has been many places...Great Grandma's and Great Grandpa's in Dos Palos & Nordy's (of course)!

5 Months Old

Brennan William is now 5 months old. Wow, he is so different!! He does a lot of things with intent: smiles, giggles, cries, grabs, converses, plays etc. He also interacts with others, especially is 'girlfriend' Charlie (same age). They smile and touch each other's faces, it is so cute to see. Believe it or not, he IS getting bigger! He is finally in 3-6 month clothes, what a BIG boy ;)

This has been a BIG traveling month, most of our time has been spent on vacation. See next blog.....

My First Teenage Babysitter

Brennan had his first teenage babysitter on Sunday, July 19th from 3:30 - 7:00. She is a trusted teen, named Ellis. She is the daughter of a good friend of mine at Bear Creek. She did an AMAZING job, and Brennan was VERY happy. Toughest part was figuring out what was appropriate pay...we decided on $7/hour. Hope that is the going rate!!

Brennan just went to his 4 month - 'well baby' - check-up. We always new Brennan was a small baby, especially when the nurse asked us if we were there for our 2 month check-up! But, we found out Brennan comes in at the 5th percentile in weight and height, and the 50th for head size...smarty! Good news is that he stays in his clothes longer than most babies :) The doctor also noted that Brennan is very personable for his age. Dr. B even said, "looks like you have a flirt on your hands"! Hmmmm, wonder where he got that....DAD!

Brennan is really grabbing for objects now and hanging on. Looks like I will have to hang up some of that jewelry. He is also rolling all over, sitting in his 'Bumbo' support chair, and starting to show signs of early crawling (tucking knees, etc.). Recently he slept 7-8 hours for 4 days strait, but just went back to 5 hours, DARN!

Three Months Old

OK...Brennan is actually 3 1/2 months old now! But he has grown so much physically and developmentally. He is almost 11 pounds, he is just starting to fit in his 0-3 month clothes! He is very active, always wanting to 'stand' and stomp his feet. Also, he has mastered rolling over (back to belly AND belly to back) and he is starting to tuck his knees under his belly. Brennan is really grasping objects. He knows how to get the pacifier out of his mouth and can almost get it back in, it is very cute to watch him try so persistently. He makes very loud screaming and cackling noises when he is happy. He is really smiley and even giggling, now. Some of his favorite activities include: listening to music, looking in the mirror, reading books (well, being read TO), laying on his play mat, bouncing and standing in our arms, watching his mobile while cracking up and laying outside. Brennan is lucky to have both Mom and Dad home for the summer. We love taking Brennan to the Farmer's Market, playing outside and going for walks. This summer Brennan had a couple of first time experiences: Staying at his first hotel (Hotel Manaco in Portland) and riding on a ski boat.

Brennan took his first BIG trip, and lucky him, he got to go to Hawaii!!! Unfortunately his Dad did not get to go, and he missed him VERY much. Brennan did great with all the driving (to Sacramento) and was perfect on the flight (THANK YOU, Brennan). The evening we arrived he was a little cranky, trying to figure it all out, then everyday after he was a been a perfect angel! He loved taking his morning naps in the shade next to Mom and then in the afternoon he would hang out in the room. We would take him down to the sunsets in the ocean and he even got to dip in the ocean a couple times. What a lucky little boy.

My first Mother's Day was very special. CJ had flowers delivered a few days before Mother's Day (VERY sweet), and I also received lots of nice cards. We went to Ashland, OR on our way home from Yreka on Sunday. We went to lunch and sat outside during some PERFECT Ashland weather. It was the a perfect day with family.

Brennan now takes all of his naps in his crib. In a few weeks he will be sleeping in his crib at night. Right now he is sleeping in the Pack N' Play downstairs in our bedroom.

Shellby and BB have been working hard to adjust to life with Brennan. Shellby shows a little jealousy for the attention Brennan gets, but is great around him. She knows that you have to be gentle around Brennan. BB did the opposite from what I thought she would do, she likes to be anywhere the baby is, especially when he cries. She does not get too close to him, though, which is good.

Check out what we have caught the animals doing! Shellby tried to curl into the Boppy (feeding pillow) and BB cozied into the baby papazan....

Grandpa Martin sent Brennan the famous GOLDEN EGG, via snail-mail. Auntie KK and Grammy Martin had to 'find' the egg (while in Sacramento), following a series of clues. Auntie KK found the picture of Brennan with the egg. She was generously rewarded!!

Bath Time!!

Brennan got his first bath on Monday night. He DID NOT like it! But, yesterday he got another bath and did not shed a tear, he was actually very happy. He must be very indecisive! At least he smells good :)

Brennan turns 1 month old today! He is still a little guy, just starting to fill out NB clothes and sort of fitting in 0-3 month clothes. He can follow objects with his eyes, hold his head up (for about 10 seconds), and is smirking (little smiles) more and more each day. During 'tummy time' he is very squirmy, he arches his back like a sky diver, almost touching his toes to the back of his head! It is so funny to watch. I will try to post a video. Brennan is very wirey! Also, he is starting to make some new noises. He already grunts a lot, but now he makes some 'coo' noises. He is sleeping well during the night, only waking twice to feed and rarely crying at night-time. He has his moments during the day, but over-all is very happy.

Brennan has many visitors! Almost a visitor a day. He loves all of the attention. Grammy Martin just left on Wednesday and Gigi and Popo are coming today!! Yesterday he got to visit his new girl-friend Charlie (she is one week old) and see a bunch of people at Bear Creek Elementary. Tomorrow he will get to go to Daddy's b-ball game.

We are finally starting to figure it all out. Cj is a great diaper changer and loves spending time with his son. I am in high-demand with this hungry little boy! When he hears my voice, he always starts 'rooting'! He has been sleeping well during the night. He sleeps in 3-4 hour increments at night! When he is awake and happy he loves looking out windows. Brennan's umbilical cord stump came off last night, so this little Pisces will be getting his first bath soon...stay tuned!!

Today is my last day of work, I made it! I just hope to make it to my Masters class tonight and tomorrow and then, he can come :) UNLESS he decides to come on his own time. Yesterday the doctor definitely recognized some progress, so....ANYDAY! Brennan already decided to not share his b-day with his Daddy, he wants his own special day.

A few of my good friends in Bend put on a very special event on Sunday. The brunch was beautiful and FUN! Each guest gave a baby book to Brennan. He now has a collection of some of the best children's books: 'The Giving Tree', 'Goodnight Moon', 'The Giving Tree' and many more... The games that the girls organized were so much fun. We played match the celebrity baby with the baby name....I got 100%! AND, they organized a video trivia game, where CJ and provided answers about parenting through a recorded video. That was hilarious!!

In case Brennan had not been spoiled enough, there was yet another shower held in his honor! Kitty, Lizzy, Christina, Nicole and Joanne all helped to throw an amazing event. This shower was filled with family friends, many women who have just recently become Grandmothers themselves. They sure know how to spoil a baby!! From the personalized pencils, to the delicious plated food, this shower was amazing!

Aunt J, Cara, Ellyn and Diane all pitched in to throw a beautiful shower with many personal details! Aunt J made blocks that incorporated photos of CJ and I in our infancy, they were so creative. Brennan even made himself known when he moved across my belly upon the opening of yet another humidifier! He must take after his mother's love of practical items, as he was literally doing flips for the humidifier!! It was a great time with close family and friends.

Over the last month, we have had showers held in Brennan's honor! To everyone who helped host, we thank you greatly. Each event was beautiful and unique, and more importanly, was a time to spend with our family and friends. CJ and I are so greatful to have been showered with so many needed baby necesities. Without these special events, we would not have been as prepared as we are now.

There has been a big growth-spurt in the past month. He and my belly have grown 3" in the last month, out of the 8-9" total!! I now have to tie my shoes at a different angle. Also, he moves a lot lately. I feel big movements and little kicks. You can even see it on the outside, if you are watching.

Within the last week, I have felt more obvious movements by the baby. They are not nearly as obvious as I would have thought. They are just like little bubbles, not distinct kicks. Last night when we were laying in bed I definately felt him. CJ put his hand on my belly and felt the little flutter! He (and I) were so excited!
