Holiday Time

CJ and I are excited to spend time with our families over the holidays!! This is a picture from the Jingle Bell Run/Walk that Cj and I did with our friends Kyle and Michelle. I almost dressed up as Santa with a 'bowl full of jelly"!!

Growing, Growing!

There has been a big growth-spurt in the past month. He and my belly have grown 3" in the last month, out of the 8-9" total!! I now have to tie my shoes at a different angle. Also, he moves a lot lately. I feel big movements and little kicks. You can even see it on the outside, if you are watching.

Pumpkin is Moving!

Within the last week, I have felt more obvious movements by the baby. They are not nearly as obvious as I would have thought. They are just like little bubbles, not distinct kicks. Last night when we were laying in bed I definately felt him. CJ put his hand on my belly and felt the little flutter! He (and I) were so excited!

Mid-Pregnancy!

We are half way there! We went to the mid-pregnancy ultrasound and was thrilled to hear that everything looks healthy. It was awesome watching HIM for 45 minutes during the ultrasound. They look for deformities, check brain development, spine development, heart development and also show you how your baby compares to others growth wise. We saw detailed views of his heart, brain, and EVERYTHING else. We saw such details as his eyes (retina and lid), ear and the bottoms of the feet. Also, the doctor re-confirmed that it IS a boy, unless...as he said...something falls off!

I continue to feel great. My only complaint is not being able to take a decongestant when I am congested, and my feet hurt a little. NOT MUCH to complain about, though.

WEEK 19 - 33.5 Inches Around!!

I just grew a 1/2 inch around my belly in the last couple days. I started recording, and it has averaged about 1/2 inch per week. I feel the stretching, it really feels tight. One of my students told me today that my baby was 'really growing fast'!

I just stopped jogging this week, I felt like I was shaking the baby up! I am thinking walking might be the best, now. I still feel great and hope it lasts :)

It's a BOY...so the doctor thinks!

Once we got home, we were so excited we could not decide who would open the gift. I couldn't do it! I closed my eyes and so did CJ, he pulled out the onesie, and I heard him laugh. When I opened my eyes I saw the boy onesie and was so surprised! I had a few instinct that it was girl, so I was way wrong. The doctor had written in the card: '70% chance a baseball player'. We had made him write a % and we think he was joking, because in the envelope he also included an ultrasound picture of the boy part. We plan on getting double confirmation at the next appointment, in a week!!

My student's voted what they thought it would be. 13 thought a girl, 12 a boy. One said I was going to have a girl because 'girls have girls'. When I told them all it was a boy, some cheered (those who voted BOY) and some sighed and moaned (those who voted GIRL). They really thought it was like a game :) the boy who said 'girls have girls' might be a little confused now!

CJ and I feel so excited to have a little more knowledge about our future with this little one. We love talking about it and calling the baby 'him'.

Boy????? OR Girl?????

Cj and I were very excited to find out whether our lives would include raising a boy, or raising a girl for our first experience at parenthood. We went to our last doctor's appointment last week ready to find out. I had heard drinking soda or OJ would help the baby move around so that the doctor could identify it's parts. So I did both!! I maybe drank too much of both, because my heart rate was higher than normal :) We decided not to have the doctor tell us there, but to have him write it on a card. We had brought a boy onesie and a girl onesie to the appointment, and had the nurses wrap the one that was identified in the card. We then went home and opened the 'gift' together. That drive from the office to our house was way too long!!

BABY FAN?

IF YOU HAVE A GOOGLE ACCOUNT, BECOME A BABY FAN (LOOK IN THE LEFT COLUMN)!

Week 15

Although I have to use my hands in this picture to highlight my bump, it is definitely growing! I just got finished with a 'Masters Weekend', a weekend full of class, and there is another girl who is recently pregnant. She is due at the end of March, so I am just a little ahead of her. It will be cool to see and compare the changes we experience. As you may be able to tell, this picture was taken in the morning....I am looking a little sleepy :) I am actually really excited for the next few weeks; the baby is going to double in size. Also, I will start looking more pregnant and less like I drank too much beer! Well, CJ and I are off to dinner. I already know what I am going to get, grilled cheese...YUM!

I'm the size of an apple!

We went to the Dr. yesterday. Heard the heartbeat, which was 158 bpm. Mom-Gail said, ohhhhhhh that means its a girl. Maybe, maybe not. In the ultra sound the baby pointed its finger and held its arm up to show all five fingers. Check the picture to the right. I said, the baby is saying 'what up daddy'! This is good stuff. Most importantly, Katy is feeling well and pregnancy is going very well. Her belly gets bigger everyday.

Starting Work

I am feeling great and am starting work tomorrow. I am no longer as tired as I was a few weeks ago, what great timing!!

Grandma and Granpa Martin just came to visit us with my Godparents, Ceci and Pat. We had a fun weekend. The next time they come to visit us in Bend, there will be a baby in our house! Weird to think of it that way.

I just posted a picture of my little 'pooch'. My Dad likes to call me 'Poochie'. I wonder what he will call me when I get huge?!

Almost through the 1st Trimester!

It has been exciting telling our family and close friends the exciting news about the baby. Most everyone knows now. Today CJ and I told our Principals, so, the news is out! We even met with a woman in the Bend La Pine's Human Resource department to discuss my leave (and even possibly CJ's). I should be able to take off the rest of the school year from March 6th on, and CJ is thinking about taking some Paternity leave the following fall.
It has been interesting watching/feeling my body change. I am starting to get a belly, but I really just think it is bloating! I wish it were a little larger, it sort of looks like a beer belly right now. I am sure I will not have to wait long for that big belly! Also, I am noticing that I can't eat regular sized meals, I feel full after just a small portion. But, I get hungry shortly there after. So, I am eating a often. I am also starting to think that me doing the grocery shopping is a bad idea! Today I walked out with Oreo's, mint chip ice cream, and few other unnecessary purchases :)

11 weeks, 2 days

Our second visit to Doctor Burkett was even better than the first. Katy and the baby (which the doc called a him) are doing very well. The heartbeat is still strong and we were able to see the little guy move around in Katy's stomach. The ultrasound machine is AWESOME! Check the picture to the left of this page. We could see him moving his arms around his face. He moved more than I would have expected. I think he is already showing signs of athletic potential. Please share the news with all. Thanks for reading. CJ

The First Appointment

Today we had our first appointment. We actually got to see the little 'bean' and the heartbeat!! It was like a little strobe light...we might have a party animal growing in me :) Dr. Bradley Burkett is a great doctor, and everything we hoped for. We also found out that the little guy/gal will be coming earlier than I predicted, March 8th is the due date.

Our new Blog

Tomorrow is Tuesday, July 29th. Katy and I are going to the OB/GYN (Finally I will learn what this means) for our first baby appointment. I could not ask for a better gift for our three year wedding anniversary, which is on Wednesday. Wow! I am going to be a dad. This is super exciting and I cannot wait for the adventure. This blog is my little gift to Katy for our wedding anniversary. This blog will allow us to keep our family up to date on the little guy or girls development throughout the pregnancy. Please post to the site. We look forward to hearing from you.
